Domain Registration

If you're taking the self-hosting route, you'll need your own domain name. While some hosting companies offer domain registration, some do not, and you might want to park your domain somewhere else to keep them all organized in one place. Here are some of our favorite domain registrars and tools to help you get started.

Regarding domain name management and registration, NameSilo is the best place to go since there are no upsells on hosting, web pages, email accounts, etc. Among its many free features, NameSilo offers WHOIS privacy, API access, customizable parking options, DNS management, and much more.

Porkbun is an incredibly awesome ICANN-accredited domain name registrar based out of the Pacific Northwest. They're beginner-friendly, intuitive, well-received in the community, and one of the most affordable registrars on the Internet.

Free Stock Images

At some point or another, you're going to wonder where to acquire free images for your blog, so here are all the best sources for free stock images.

Download, copy, modify, distribute, perform, and use Unsplash photos for free, including for commercial purposes, without any permission from or attribution to the photographer or Unsplash.

Pexels provides free high-quality stock photos licensed under the Pexels license, which means you can use them as-is or edit them without any attribution requirements. All images are nicely tagged, searchable, and easily discoverable.

Pixabay hosts a vibrant community of creators sharing images, videos, and music without copyright restrictions. Since all Pixabay images are released under the Pixabay License, they can be used without permission or crediting the artist, even for commercial purposes.

With Freepik, users can find high-quality photos, vectors, illustrations, and PSD files for their creative projects. Although images from Freepik require attribution, you'll find much higher-quality images than the previous three sources.

Premium Images

No matter how you slice it, Adobe Stock provides one of the best values for premium images and media. The starter plan gives you 10 assets a month and even allows for 120 rollover assets (up to 120).

iStock is one of the world's leading stock content marketplaces, offering millions of hand-picked premium images with flexible subscription plans and unused download rollovers.

A great alternative to Adobe Stock with millions of royalty-free images and competitive pricing. The only downside is that your credits do not roll over each month, so you must be sure you use them.

Need premium stock images at the lowest possible price? Since 2005, 123RF has sold premium royalty-free images and stock photography at very low prices.

Headline Analyzers

To attract as many readers as possible, your headlines must instantly command attention. Craft the perfect headline with these fantastic headline analyzers.

This free (and really awesome) blog tool will determine your Emotional Marketing Value (EMV) by analyzing your headline using Advanced Marketing Institute's proprietary analysis technology.

CoSchedule's Headline Studio will blow your mind, and I don't say this often. This tool gives your headline a rating on a scale of 1-100 based on many factors, such as word choice, reading level, sentiment, clarity, etc., and provides suggestions on improving your headline using a specifically tailored thesaurus to maximize your click engagement.

Idea Generation

Are you struggling to come up with a blog post idea? Here are some exciting blogging tools and resources to help get the gears turning inside your head. Content ideas are just a click away.

Portent is an amazing tool that generates sample blog post titles based on your subject, complete with helpful explanations of why the title might be interesting. You can refresh as often as you like to get new ideas.

It's relatively simple, really. Search for relevant questions in your niche by entering a broad keyword (e.g., “seo tools,” “backlinks,” etc.). Afterward, you'll be presented with a plethora of questions on which you can base your content.

You can write in-depth blog posts about the types of questions real people ask on the Quora answer website. Keep an eye out for topics related to your blog's subject matter and follow them.

Using BuzzSumo, you can quickly find your niche's best-performing social media content. BuzzSumo can help you flesh out an existing idea or analyze the content that does well (and the blogs that do it best) in your niche.

Similarly to Portent, HubSpot's Blog Idea Generator tool allows you to enter three keywords, and HubSpot will give you five titles or a week's worth of content.

With QuickSprout, you can analyze the performance and content of a website. In the “Social Media” tab, you can see which posts from the site have been most popular, and you can draw inspiration from them.

It's simple; you tell Leo, Feedly's AI engine, what's important to you, and he flags the critical insights from everywhere, including news sites, blogs, Twitter, and even email newsletters.

Using Google Trends, you can find out what search trends are happening. The tool measures search volume for particular terms across various regions and languages. Use Google Trends to see if a particular subject or topic is popular before committing to a post or blog topic entirely.

Blogs to Follow

Follow Tom Dupuis and his highly detailed WordPress speed guides, and you'll leave your competitors in a trail of dust.

CodeinWP is a blog for those who want to learn how to build their own websites. You can expect a new tutorial, list, comparison post, or other highly researched pieces every week from our team of over ten writers and editors.

Kyle Mann has spent the last 8 years working with WordPress and will tell you that learning WordPress is easy. What isn't easy is navigating through all the misinformation. Discover how to start a blog without all the bullshit.

Core Web Vitals

If you're having trouble optimizing for Google's new Core Web Vitals, I recommend the following guides and tutorials.

What Are Core Web Vitals?

Google considers Core Web Vitals to be important factors affecting the overall user experience of a webpage. Three specific metrics make up Google's Core Web Vitals: largest contentful paint, first input delay, and cumulative layout shift.

These three metrics are critical SEO components that require close attention when designing a web page. The intent is to push web designers to focus on creating a positive user experience for humans instead of optimizing for web crawlers.

Testing Core Web Vitals

Enter your URL into Google's PageSpeed Insights to analyze its performance. Afterward, return here to see how you can improve your scores.
