There are actually two main ways to install and activate a WordPress theme.

Let's start with the easier option first.

1. From the WordPress dashboard, navigate to Appearance > Themes > Add New.

2. From here, you can search, install and activate different themes.

How to Install a WordPress Theme From a ZIP File

Use this option If you already have the WordPress theme .zip file.

1. Same as above (Appearance > Themes > Add New).

2. Click the Upload Theme button, and select your theme file.

Where to get WordPress themes

If you're looking for WordPress themes, I recommend Astra (the FREE theme I am using) and GeneratePress. Both are extremely lightweight and fast! You can also browse wordpress.org for themes as well.

I don't recommend using premium “multipurpose” themes because they are slow and unnecessary. Here are some recommended articles about themes, plugins, and CSS.
